Is there a special add-on or an application, possibly web based, that I could use to co-browse websites with my friend? So that I could see the contents of my friends screen, when he's surfing the web.

Some desktop sharing tool might be the solution for you, since every operating system usually has one. If they feel complicated to use, then I'd suggest this platform independent and web-based tool for online collaboration. It's called the Screen2.com.
