Do you all do SEO (Search Engine Optimization) or through PPC (eg. Adwords, etc)? Or do you all use other ways or means to channel traffic to ur site?

Well SEO should be at the top of anyone's list but that is not really advertising! That will allow you to get in some terms to hopefully get you some traffic!

What type of site is it that you are trying to promote??

I may have an idea or two for you!!!

well you can do offline marketing like tv ads, paper ads, promotianal stuff like t-shorts with webiste logo etc. Also online stuff like promoting in forums and communities

I haven't advertised my site yet but i have things planned such as Youtube Videos, Myspace Bulletins/Messages, Social Bookmarking and Forum Posting

I don't advertise my sites that much, but my new one I'm making I will put it in about 150 Social Bookmark sites and I think I'll get a good amount of traffic from that.

Giving out something free with a link back is also a good way to get traffic and advertise as well (like wallpaper with your URL on it), etc. Original content goes a long way towards good SEO as well. Other than that, social networking mostly, social bookmarking is something I'm trying lately.

I advertise mainly on social bookmarking sites and free directories. I do link exchanges with other webmasters as much as I can as well or buy permanent link space. Apart from that I add my sites to forum signatures (where permitted). I want to start using Youtube to promote my websites but I can't really come up with something like an interesting video just yet. I'm working on a .org right now (on beta, haha). When I'm done with it I'll probably do the T-shirt advertising. That should be fun.

these days there is a huge trend about social bookmarking traffic. I hope PPC Ad networks like Google , Yahoo wouldn't get bored with it.

mostly free methods, just look around there are lots of free ways to advertise, via blogs, social bookmarks, free directory, search engines, email, web site, social networking sites.
if all else fails (im sure it won't) then pay for ads

Have to totally agree with weblord.

All my ads come from posting on sites like this with a signature link and letting as many people I know about.

I submit my websites to various search engines. If I don't notice any change in my traffic after some time, I try to find better source of advertisement. Backlinks are very good to gain traffic.
