Default Backup your existing site

I was wondering how can you backup your site if your webhost does not have this option in the cPanel? Lets say I am planning to switch my host, how do I backup my site so it stays intact?

If it is a simple HTML website then you won't have any problems. Simply save the HTML pages and upload at new web host. However, if you have databases and stuff then it would be a good idea to make a backup of databases. Then install a new script (or whatever you use) and then replace the databases. Thats what I did with my phpLD directories and nothing was lost.

Contact your provider to see how you would go about doing this since you are switching.

usually the new webhosting provider will do this for free of charge as long as you have some pre-arranged agreement with them. i for one do this for free to my new clients.

There should be a FAQ page on your host's site. Go check there or email your provider or something. It's not hard to backup your files.

It becomes a really mess when it comes to a forum. You can save everything with a database backups except members avatars and stuff.

You should try to stay with the host you are happy with. Get the host you want before you make the forums or whatever.

I have never owned a forum but I think when you make backup of database, it will save everything (like members signatures, the links where avatars are hosted). The only problem I can see is the avatars which you host on your server. May be download all these avatars from old host too before the transfer. It may be more complicated than that but thats the most easy solution I can think off.

Alternatively, you can hire some professional who is experienced in transferring vB and PhpBB forums.

I've never made a forums before. I was thinking of making a web developer one but there are many out there with higher P.R. and quite honestly I don't know anyone personal who knows how to code forums like me in my life. In cyber-world yes but real-life no.
