Syngenetic has the best idea. That is how I got started. I joined a company that let me telecommute and so I was able to work online and get paid as in a regular job. This way you get the best of both worlds and no self-employment tax.

Yes its the same what I did too. experience you gain from a office is important when you start your career. But there will be a point you will have to move another step forward and start doing your own work full time. Like any other business its a big step some never able to take this step and some fail and go back. I had a very bad first year when i quit from my day job and started work online. many would had given up and gone back to work. anyway I survived and now things are better and getting better and better.

i think online-career is ricky. you can loose everything easily
If you build the website/company before you do it full time, you won't be risking much if it's already making money. ;)

First you have to work hard and get your sites earn money by different sources after that you can think about a full time career.

If your doing it right, you should be spending a majority of your day online. The only time I am off the computer is when I am at school, the gym, or with family. Any time else is spent on websites, networking, and whatever else I decide to do.

Lol, my design skills are mediocre. I'm more of a web developer. My current site is being tweaked on. Trying new things and such.

Reese-I think making it as a web designer is near impossible these days. Unless you target a certain niche and are a real go getter. It would appear that your everyday web designer is not going to last long. I much like you chose to be a business owner .

yes if you try to keep your income from one ad network like AdSense or just try to be a web designer then its risky. Main thing is use have to keep open several lines of revenue.

I have always dreamed of starting a business online or something or offering part time services. It's really interesting reading about people who have taken this venture. I think once you are talented you should succeed. Flexible working hours.
