I am submitting my site to different free directories for last few months but up till now I didn't see any changes........

Why don't you post articles to other similar free & business oriented wikis instead of submitting your url to different directories. I bet wikis will prove much more effective than 100 link directory submissions. The quality of the backlinks will be much higher with wikis.

Submitting your site to Internet Directories does help if the Directory page you are getting listed on is relevant.

I have a business directory for the Sheet Metal Industry. It was added to the site that was already ranking very well in the search engines and a fairly extensive forum as well as much other related content. We added the directory only as an added value to the many businesses that frequently visit and contribute to the site, this helped the core site gain more strength in the search engines as it was easily indexed.

In my experience, directory submission helps in promoting the sites. It's a bit tricky. So you need to follow it up with posting in forums, social bookmarks and social networks.

As for my experience directories are very useful especially for those directories that contributes to multiple search engines
