Is there a reason why there are more created web directories than article directories? Wouldn't an article directory be more easier to create content for repeating visitors? If people are looking for websites, they will go to Google (look how much traffic they took from the Yahoo SE) . Even though people can still search for articles on Google, aren't people more likely going to go to different sources for articles/information if they are researching or browsing articles? So why are there more created web directories than article directories?

I think so its just because people want to promote their website much rather thn promoting articles on website ...You can have both on one too
