I have added this thread because web directories are amongst the most powerful ways to promote your website along with other things in my opinion.

Let's see how much action we can get going in this thread!

Questions on how to install or modify a web directory?

I am personally a fan of phpLD directories (paid version 3.3) and if you have any questions about them I would be glad to share my knowledge of them!

No favorites here at all! There are a lot of fine directory scripts out there, I just happen to be in to phpLD pretty heavy because they have been pretty successful for me!

I have seen many uses and i was using one old free version but untill so far i didnt made any money and i stopped promoting it

I heard the free version suck but i am no pro at these but that is what i heard.

Anyone else heard that?

I am interested in the directory biz and I think the paid version of phpld is great! I am just confused as to how to promote a directory.

1. Make sure that your Title, Meta Description, Meta Keywords and Site Content have relevancy with each other. (Make sure your Title is set up with a few keywords kind of like this: Web directory - Advertising Links l YourSite.com)

2. Place your directory in as many bookmark sites that you can an also try to get people to place your directory in some bookmark sites.

3. Submit your directory in to as many free directories that you can.

4. Squidoo is a very powerful thing to do. You just open a Suidoo account and do a Lens.

NOTE: People can place you in as many as you can have them do but the links that you place in directories and book sites, only do like 25 per week and do NOT do them all in one day. Spread your submissions out like doing 5-10 every 3-5 days.

These things will give you an excellent start!

Like Hunter1, I myself have been making it pretty good with the newer licensed directories. Almost all of my directories have been updated and its paying off as we speak.

I agree with you with one thing.....the paid versions are the only way to go!!

Directories are already starting to make a great comeback and they will be HUGE soon.

i just installed free version and experimenting with that

but it seems paid version is better from the experts view :)

they both have their problems. I make more money with the free one, but its been around a lot longer.

OpenLD is a contender, if more people used it.

I like some of the features on OpenLD but I am still a Diehard phpLD Guy!

OpenLD has a good though, you are right..

Since I posted last about the directory discussion, I now have 17 licensed paid version 3.3 PHPld Directories and am really happy these past months! Glad to get rid of the free ones. Thanks

thanks dudes, i spent the last 10 months on the wrong forums. I was on DP and Warrior, but there is to much unfocused ebooks and stuff.
This is explained for newbs and experts alike.
