It is updated so infrequently rarely is an accurate reflection of a websites popularity or traffic. I like seeing PR after updates, just to gauge the progress of sites I've been working on but its not always an accurate indicator IMO.

As long as I will get good traffic I will not pay heed to it but PR and traffic of a website is somehow interlinked.

PageRank is what Google uses to determine the importance of a web page. It's one of many factors used to determine which pages appear first in search results.PageRank is from 0 - 10, with 10 being the highest number awarded.

Google figures that when one page links to another page, it is effectively casting a vote for the other page. The more votes that are cast for a page, the more important the page must be. Also, the importance of the page that is casting the vote determines how important the vote itself is. Google calculates a page's importance from the votes cast for it. How important each vote is is taken into account when a page's PageRank is calculated.
So, it sounds like it doesn't matter the topics of the linked pages, just how 'popular' the linked pages are (defined as how many other pages they are linked to and their links are linked to).

This will give you an idea about the website ... As they say that higher PR mean higher quality of website or blog. But honestly speaking this is not the case of all time. I do know many blogs and website which does not have anything but instead of that they are having PR 3.
Major PR update happens once in every three months (no date fixed) and minor PR updates keep happening. If you are into the business of flipping websites or selling links than yes PR will decide your product price :) |

PageRank is Google's way of deciding a page's importance. It matters because it is one of the factors that determines a page's ranking in the search results. It isn't the only factor that Google uses to rank pages, but it is an important one.

I think that keyword optimization and SEO, although the are co-existent, they should be considered a (2) two separate processes.
From what I have been gathering in from reading different forums, I think many webmasters try to consider PageRank and Keyword Optimization as the same thing. Optimizing a website to increase PageRank and optimizing a website to get free traffic from search engines, need to be considered as separate processes.

There’s so much talk about PageRank not being as important as it used to be. Well, I too agree to it to a degree but not entirely. And the reason for this is that the Google indexes pages of sites with PageRank within minutes of publishing. Where as the sites with NO PageRank has to wait for Google’s periodic update to get fully indexed. Well there’re other ways to index pages of site that have no PageRank. If you’re a webmaster then I am sure you know how.
AS PR is not related to traffic therefore those who target traffic should lest bother for page rank. |

It's just a simple but smart formula made by Google developers.
And it is useful, in my opinion, even for SEO experts.

I think pagerank is more of a bragging rights. The bigger the number the better. It doesn't really do much for traffic and seems to carry little weight nowadays. I created a website about a month ago and spent a couple of hours doing about five directory submissions. My pagerank jumped to 2 after the update. I was surprised, i actually have a rank. My other site sowoco.org have way more traffic but the pagerank remained the same.

PageRank is a link analysis algorithm used by the Google Internet search engine that assigns a numerical weighting to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents, such as the World Wide Web, with the purpose of "measuring" its relative importance within the set

Pagerank is fun to watch on the meter but trust me it doesn't have anything to do with which top search terms you are in.
I can provide total proof of that! ![]()
