Hello friends
We all know there are several search engines: AltaVista, Ask, Google, Yahoo!, etc. In an independent way, if possible, can anybody explain to me what the major differences are between them? I'm not looking for detailed technical differences. Just wondering in what situations I would use one rather than another, or are they all pretty much the same?

Although there are a lot search engines have in common, but their algorithms are definitely different in most cases. Yahoo and Bing are said to favor the on page elements more than the Google which puts emphasis on the links pointing at the websites various pages.

In my own experiences, only four general search engines are using different engines. They would be Google, Yahoo, Bing, ASK.
Have a nice day, |

Search engine differ from the algorithm work
Google can create localized versions of its services, or even feed you different results depending on where you’re physically located. However, it cannot force every site out there to do the same. Wolfram Alpha, for the most part, does not depend on other sites for the data it’s giving you, and therefore its localization works better. For example, if I ask it “New York income per capita” it will also give me the result in my local currency. Google will give me good results for the same query, but I’ll have to do the conversion myself.
