I have come up with the conclusion that links on forums don't count much for search engines. Search engines can recognize forum pages and they don't give much weight to links on those pages.

Not true at all!! Several of the forum posts go into Omitted results but trust me, they are worth it!! Sigs are very healhty!!

well you could get traffic from those pages too link or signature. lets say the thread got indexed and visitors who come to that page from search engines might come to your site through them.

I think it depends on if the site relates to your particular website's niche. Getting a link from a forum on corporate finance for an arcade for instance probably doesn't count for much. But these links often do get traffic though.

I've came to the following conclusion:

If you are marketing a website for less competitive keywords, then forum signatures can do very well for you but if you are marketing a website for high competitive keywords then forum signatures won't bring much fruit.

I have many sig links in different forums and the best they get me is a few visitors monthly. What traffic are you talking about?

Maybe I am doing something wrong.

I believe it is the traffic you will get because of better ranking in the search engines which they are talking about. Not the click through traffic you get from the forum sigs.

Forum signature is a way to promote your site if the forum is a a related one and for an active member that post good and informative information for other to benefit from.

I think it depends on the sandbox effect, and the rank of the forum and if it is popular, I think they are worth links even they are on the forum
