Default Web Host & SEO

Does the web hosting have any effect on SEO of a website? I mean if its a shared hosting and anyone else on same server is using black hat techniques, will this effect our SEO too?

I'm not an SEO expert, but I doubt that one site on a shared host would bring down the others. If this was the case, then every shared host would be at risk. What can mess you up though is slow response time and downtime of the server in relation to SEO.

I dont think Hosting can do much effect expect a when it comes to downtime. But when you have sites linked to each other but using same IP or same sever, Google might take them as low valued links.

Thanks puffin for your reply but I am not concerned about cross linking of sites on same IP but I'm more concerned about the other sites hosted who use dirty seo tactics which are forbidden by .. anyways.. I think I got my answer that it won't effect much.. Thanks puffin & sunken for your replies. Much appreciated.

I don't think it will have any effect. Unless your host is always down.

I'm sure this will be argued but having a shared IP has little to do with SEO at all as long as it is broadcasting to the DCs.

As far as having alot of your sites on the same server......That doesn't matter either unless you are running a network with RSS or database connections, which they are bad things anyway for SEO!

Any site using black hat seo on a shared site would not risk other sites on the same server. Otherwise all the shared hosting sites will have atleast one bad site in them and that would kill all the other sites on the same server. Google understands this.

In my opinion, it won't have any effect. Any search engine can understand that.

I think so. How can I control the other customer if I am not reseller? This would be some cruel...

No not at all. even lets say you have 2 sites on same server for one site you use black hat seo and for the good seo, Still if Google ban your site which used black hat seo they wouldn't ban the other site. I'm talking from seo point of view Not from Adsense coz some might misunderstand this.
