I'm just wondering, how long does it take to get PageRank and how can we get a higher PageRank?

It all depends on how close you are to Google's update cycle. If it's only a month, then about a month. Seems to me the next one should be January or February of 2008. To get higher PageRank, you need to get quality links from sites in your genre that have high PR themselves. The more of those you have, the better.

If you have a lot of backlinks from directories, forums and any other websites then you would get a PR in the next page rank update. If not then it may take a while.

Actually PR updates frequently but it is internally... The PR updates you are talking is the green bar.. It is actually months old....

Quality links....backlinks, backlinks...Key to higher PR...
