Completely away from the traditional style PHPLD

Nice template. I'm trying to use it but having trouble with a few things. Well, I figured out one, how to left align text in the sidebar. I didn't like it centered.
My question is how to get thumbnails to show on the main page? Usually you can just copy/paste the links.tpl file over the main.tpl file but that isn't working in this theme. Do you know a way?
