vb is paid so therefore chances of being hacked or exploited is small rather than phpbb 3 which is open source.
im not sure if phpbb3 is paid or free i haven't checked it yet, i stopped with phpbb2 btw
so enlighten me. if payment is the difference then if both are paid, then i'll still go with vb much more secure than phpbb
so my answer is security.

I agree with Weblord and I will add that from an SEO standpoint, there is no smoother code in the business except for Wordpress which is very close.

phpBB is not a bad script though but you have to Mod the heck out of it to be able to run it properly, but heck, it's free!!!

yeah and you mention the mod, modding with vb is much easier you can do it with one eye closed, but in phpbb you need to sit down and take some thinking about it chances are after all the manual editing of the files and you're sure that you have edited everything, you still end up with a corrupted phpbb so modding is much more user-friendly in vb

yeah another thing, phpbb requires a pro to mod it. however vb can be modded in an instant without knowing the codes just plug and play but others require attention also but the major ones don't.

vBulletin is a very secured forum software. PhpBB is an open source script that allows any hackers to download, study the script, and eventually hacking it's victims. vBulletin also offers many variety of scripts, whereas phpBB users may not find all the scripts they need. vBulletin is very well coded, and is greatly flexible.

WELL although it might look to be vulnarable due to being open source, but that's the speciality of opensource software,
If one person is looking at the code to crack (crack and not hack) in it, many other's are studing it to patch the security holes.
If a exploit is detected people can provide there own patch,

whereas when we talk about a closed source software we are stick to same dev team for all patches and if something misses from there eyes its gone. so its a risk for me to go for closed source soft,
and hence i prefer opensource,

So please don't make points that being open source enhance problems.

big projects go with vbulletin, but if your just doing a small i would go for phpbb because a small project wouldnt have that much money so phpbb might suit you better for your needs whereas vbulletin is paid and is quite expensive so i wouldnt buy vbulletin unless you no exactly its going to be popular and you would earn enough to keep it going.
