Default Photoshop Question???

I don't own photoshop but instead I own Paintshop Pro 6 & 8. Well just my luck the industry standard is something I don't have. aarrr!

Ok, My question is what photoshop versions will slice and work with psd.

I can't afford cs3, lot of green for sure so any others that are cheaper that will do that???

Thanks,

The only 2 programs that I know of that you can edit a PSD file are these:

GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program
Paint.NET - Download

There is nothing like PhotoShop though.

You may be able to find some cheapie CS2 software out there somewhere in the net.

I havent switched to 3 yet. 2 is just fine for now!

I hope that helps!

Thanks Hunter 1, maybe I can find a deal on CS2 because CS3 is out of my budget for sure.

I would recommend GIMP. I've heard very good things about them.

My brother is in that business. I could probably get you a copy.

The best way to get Photoshop legitimately, in my opinion, is buy a secondhand, older version, perhaps 6 or 7, from somewhere like eBay. Make sure it's the full version - not an upgrade - and make sure it's NOT elements. Then buy the upgrade, which you can also get quite cheap on eBay.

I paid about £40 for a secondhand copy of Photoshop 6 from an eBay seller, and about £190 for the CS2 upgrade from a software website.

That's a hell of a saving, compared to buying the full software, and it's totally legitimate.

Incidentally, although I don't know how true this is and I did hear a while ago, that CS3 is not as stable as CS2, and a lot of people were not pleased with the performance of the upgrade - Adobe might have patched it by now, but you might want to look into it first.

Well I cleared my hard drive and installed xp. Then I installed gimp and it worked so I guess I am set to go. Thanks very much to everyone for your advice.
