Google is the better way to check backlinks as they are not flawed. I have found that the other ways are not mostly right and don't hold much value to what we are actually looking for thus hampering our results.

Backlinks will show up in your

webmaster tools and in your Yahoo site explorer. Between the 2, it seems that yahoo site explorer is a little more detailed and shows more links.
