I have DW but I rarely use it. I like plain text editors more!

Thanks. That's extremely useful.

Most of the HTML and CSS that I do comes from what I learn in tutorials and such. It's really not complicated.

Ah...Dreamweaver!!
Gotta love it.
I shouldn't share this but:

Software like DreamWeaver costs right? Well there is more than one way of jumping round this.
First, you could download it on 30 trial, and just before you install it however, set your computer clock forward three years! Then install. You can guess what this does. Dreamweaver will give you 1125 free days trial I think. Depends how far forward you put your clock!
Second method, you can get programs in which you view the software in coding format. You can see it in "Assembly" or I THINK it's "Hexadecimal". These programs will enable you to search the built in serial number for the product. All you have to do is find it, which, if you know the coding language...Isn't too hard ;).
Third and final method, there are many sites on the net in which offer free serial numbers! I had a mate in norway who was producing a thousand a day! No idea how they get them, they either purchase them or steal them. Either way, they get them. Most don't work, but worth a try :D

I do not think Dreamweaver is a good software though!!

I code in Notepad ++, which is clear and simple. A proper coder does not need buttons which will type this: <?php echo""; ?> automaticly. It's faster to type it!!

definately dreamweaver is a helpper tool and a true hand coder still like the good old notepad or notepad++, if you use linux try bluefish, i like it toomuch.

also dreamweaver and all IDE has a very bad habbit of keeping codes their own way and if you apply hand coding you are sure to break some other part's

Well Its the best tool which you can find for both HTML and PHP. It might to little hard first but when you get little used to it you wont able to live without it lol. Only the bad side is , its quite expensive and take CPU resources.

You have to admit though, if you are a decent coder...Dreamweaver is not worth paying for.
It has buttons for clicking which will produce the output on your page. That's about it.

A simple free progrm like Notepad ++ will do all the stuff you need like count your lines and color the languages.
Dreamweaver isn't really worth paying for unless you are a total beginner at coding and can't type very well.

well i tend to differ,

and i prefer just the opposite way,

I think at begining people should avoid IDE's
where as those expert at handcoding should use IDE more,

the reason for me is that newbies have lose based so IDE's will make them slaves.

where as experts have all knowledge so they should concentrate on more pressing issues instead of wasting thier time in typing all this crap again and again.

I'm a definite fan of HTML Kit. There is a free version available for download. It's generally light on system resources, and with fully customizable keyboard shortcuts I can pretty much code as fast as Dreamweaver generates.

When it comes to maintaining sites, being a hand coder is essential. If all you use is Dreamweaver's WYSIWYG mode, then you are ill prepared to trouble shoot many problems associated with web design and development.
