Default Copyrights vs Domain Names

Well if someone had reg'ed a Domain Name long before someone else copyrighted it. Should the guy who owns the domain give up it if they ask for the domain name ?

This German guy bought the domain name of my country (we were a little late with the internet revolution, lol) he was forced to give it up - but my country still had to buy the domain name from him, and from what I hear they paid millions.

Whats your country is ?:) Well Normally domain would had return to registry if he is not eligible to keep the domain. I don't how he sold it, maybe someone wanted the domain badly so bought before it was return to registry.

Most of the time whoever has deep pockets will win in the copyright issue. :D

I think once you copyright more than five domains with same extension or something, you virtually own the rights to all the extensions. Thats how a game company got back a domain name registered as a .mobi

When did this happen and what was the domain that your country paid this much for?

You can't copy right a domain name. Only a name or a phrase.

But most of the time people are just willing to settle in copyright issues. Just don't get too greedy.

I dont think it works that way. Probably they might have got back the .mobi name arguing that they have already branded that name.

It's little confusing.
What exactly is copyrighted?
Could you make it more clear please?
