I think you are asking about the difference between Branded names and generic keywords.
branded names - Google.com / Yahoo.com / devhunters.com / Namepros.com generics are like - homeloans.com / domains.com / casino.com / sex.com .

if you look carefully u will understand branded names are made for business purpose. for example "namepros.com" is a site for domain names "domain names" is a keyword. "devhunters.com" is a webmasters forum so "webmasters" is a keyword.
