Well if you are getting college training than I would lean towards being a graphics artist which pays very well and is in high demand, and then you will need to start on a trail of different code languages I would say such as PHP and HTML for starters.

Another good way to start learning is to put up like a phpLD directory so that you can see how a well constructed site is put together...

You should try to learn PHP, HTML, XML and JavaScript for being a web developer. A quite knowledge of photoshop and flash is also helpful to you.

I think a lot of web development stuff you can and should learn on your own. The university I go to doesn't have much to offer in terms of this subject matter. Most people ahead in this field learn it on their own or outside of college.

Here another question. Not from the institution can i be a professional web designer from free tutorials, which can be found from Internet. In other ways, is there a free complete course of web developing from online.

Hi friend so you want to become a web developer. definitely you can become a web developer. no need to worry. i don't know where are you form so I can't suggest university. but i am trying to solve your problem you can join any institute and They will learn you but no body can't teach you anything .you have to practice yourself . you need a more practice . you told you are learning HTML it's good but you need to learn CSS,HTML and JavaScript. While most web developer roles require other technologies such as Unix, Apache and server management, My-SQL & PHP. if you learn all this thing so you will become web developer. so all the best.............

There are a few online school for web design and programming but if you don't want to pay thousands of dollars here's some things you can do. I would suggest going to youtube and checking out some web design videos. Also you would need to get a copy of dreamweaver or even better adobe creative suite. And lastly, just check out the SSEo forums for tips and advice.

Straight up simple answer is, unfortunately, go get a Computing Science degree or equivalent. Whether your primary language is Java,C#, Ruby or whatever, you will have (if you work hard) a fundamental understanding of computing, programming, accessibility and usability concepts which you can carry across any language/platform/framework.

I’ve been a web developer since I was 17, so now over 8 years experience; College is a waste of MONEY. Sign up with Lynda.com, go read books. Learn what languages you want to on your own, and start building a portfolio.

With an impressive portfolio you can get a job without paying a college your first years salary to learn what you could have learned yourself.

Experience and Quality of work in this industry overwelms education. I never even got my GED, and no one cares I’ve been with 4 different companies making good money.

Hello friends

Web design is still new in terms of education, and it can be extremely difficult to figure out what type of program you should follow in order to get the most out of your education. I am constantly running into posts on forums about the subject, and talking to high school students who want to know what type of program to enter. There is no short answer however I do have my experience and advice to share, which I feel could be helpful. Also I have compiled a list of some of the most common misconceptions about becoming a web design which is located at the bottom of this post.
Determining what it is you actually want to do
What about interactive programs?
Education outside the classroom

Thanks to all friends....
