Default Physical Education Mandated?

When I went to school in the late 1800's, er, in the 1970's, physical education was pretty much mandatory unless you had a doctor's note. And even then, you didn't get to skip it for another subject. I hadn't realized they took it out of the school day. I agree that it will help kids stay fit, but I just hope that they have exemptions for kids who are not physically able to participate in some things. For instance, most of the physed teachers I ever had didn't care if you were having a heart attack, just finish the 20 pushups. All kids are different and need to be treated individually rather than one blanket program that doesn't work for everyone.

Most things the education system are blanket programs. Standardized testing such a SAT is a blanket system. I value the merit of blanket system but more recognition needs to be given to multiple intelligences.

PE is also mandatory when I was in high school. But it's something I pretty much enjoy doing. I don't get to do much physical activity these days.

Oh yeah, PE has been one of the subjects I love when I was young. (I used to be a dancer then).

And I think that's just one good program of schools but of course Teachers make sure that their students are fit well to do the task.
