I have many blogs with different niches... But I only manage two of them regularly with updating new contents and proper link building.. It's really hard to handle and manage so many blogs...

My question is what is the maximum number of blogs to manage them effectively?

maybe 3 or 4 will be okay.. so that you can work offpage with it...

As many as you can manage without having Stale blogs is what I think.

Many people have several blogs that do nothing in them. That's not good!

I cn handle up to 4 blogs. I tried to run 7 blogs before, but i wasn't able to have regular post on all of it. I just drop it down to 4 now.

I have developed many blogs. But I realized that all these blogs could not be maintained by me. Now I am concentrated two blogs only. They are chukkiri and Trinity Creations. They are having recent posts.

And not one of them is an auto-updating blog.
Some days, I update all of them.
Most times, I update 2-5 of them a day.

If you are writing on something you know and enjoy you could probably cope with more sites. However if it is something that is more complex you will just end up neglecting some sites and any repeat readers you have built up will stop coming back.
