Is your site new? I would focus on good keywords for your site and adding content to your site. Try adding a blog or Article to your site.
Always stay in SE guidelines and don't do anything black hat like paying for links. Work on back links by going on (do follow) forums and blogs and posting comments with a signature. Use this time in Forums related to your site to learn more about your industry and share and sometimes you'll find great tips and see what keywords they are using. Checking on SEO forums is good as well to understand the industry and what you can do to help your website. Download Google Analytics and Google Adwords Keyword Tool and start monitoring your sites activity and make changes as necessary. Good Luck! Remember slow and steady wins the race don't build your site to fast SE don't like that. You don't want to get penalized and cripple your website.
