I believe that age does not matter. I believe that fresh content on the pages that you are linked to does!

It is just like directories that just sit there and do NOTHING!!

phpLD directory scripts for instance introduced content sections on their homepage as well as the categories so that you can change the content every once in awhile to freshen up the SERP reading.

Is that what you mean?
